Quick and EASY Baby Blankets

My sister Whitney came up with an idea for a baby blanket a few years back.  She loves to just take a piece of cute fabric, pair it with minky and then quilt it together.  No batting or anything in between.  Its the perfect weight and size to bundle a newborn.  It took me awhile to get use to the idea of quilting something without batting.  The quilt doesn't always lay perfectly flat once its quilted, but it does have a good weight to it.  Here is one of my latest creations using this method.

Fabric is Wonderland by MoMo - its Moda of course.

Another baby blanket project I recently worked on was one made by Moda's presewn patchwork fabric.  I LOVE this fabric.  I try to buy a yard or two everytime I see it.  Its fabric squares already sewn together, so the work is done for you.  I've added borders to the fabric in the past, but I also just like to pair it with minky and quilt it.  Makes a great throw or little baby quilt.  This one is done, just needs to be bound.

Fabric is Aviary by 3 Sisters of Moda

One last baby blanket I want to start.  My son Jake is obsessed with robots.  I found this fabric.  Trying to think of something cute to do with it.  Any ideas?

Happy Easter

We had a fun Easter Saturday.  My mom and dad hosted a brunch/Easter Egg Hunt.  Since Jake is the only grandchild of the right age in the state he is the center of attention.

Grama and Grandpa hide Easter eggs all over the house for Jake to find and we all followed him around to watch.  After he found each egg he would say "is it over yet?"  or "am I done?"  or "that's a great egg."  It was pretty funny to watch.

We also colored eggs yesterday with Whit and Jason.

Jake left them in his and Sam's baskets and this morning woke up to find all his eggs had been hidden!  He didn't have any time to look for them because he was too excited about the robot the Easter Bunny had left him.  Nothing else in his basket has even been looked at.  Not even the chocolate eggs he's been begging me for everyday!

Other then Jake having a very bad cold and fever, its been a pretty fun weekend.  Good food, fun family times, and eggs of all types!

Thanks mom and dad for a great hunt and breakfast!

Lent

Currently at my house we are all trying to give up something.

Mike has decided to go the no carbs route in his weight loss story.

I am on a 800 calorie intake a day which makes what I put into my mouth a big decision.  I have given up my daily coke, and boy do I miss it!  I might have 1 a week depending on if I have calories to spare, but I don't know if I've ever missed something so much before in my life!

Jake is trying to give up his bink. He is my bink baby and LOVES his binks.  He isn't really aware of this fact, we are trying to help him give it up.  So far, he isn't doing well.  Today he was rolling around on the the floor crying.
Jake:  Mom, I NEEDDDDD my bink.
Me: Jake you don't NEED your bink.
Jake: Yes I do mom, I really need my bink.

He got it back for his nap.  Needless to say this may be an uphill battle.

Sam is also trying to give up something, even though he doesn't know it.  I'd love for him to get over his 3am feeding.  Any suggestions?

Needless to say, we aren't all in the best of moods these days!

Something Springy

Whitney has already claimed this.  Just need to get the binding on.

I love the back fabric maybe more then the front.

I kind of wanted to keep it when I see it on my kitchen island.

Although it has been snowing this week, I'm counting down the days til I can plant some flowers and open the pool!

Challenge Met

Remember this post.  Mike told me anything I bought that day had to be completed in a week.  Well, although it was awhile ago, I can happily say I met the challenge.  I got everything sewn that week.  Some were quilted and bound, but some are still sitting on the floor in my craft room.

I'm also missing a quilt oddly enough I can't find it anywhere!

As you can see I'm all about the squares these days.  During my maternity leave I would take a charm pack and sew them together.  It was the fastest, easiest project I could do so I felt like I was completing something. I've got to break away from the squares.

Here are a few pics, minus the stack of 3 quilt that is MIA.

This is a baby quilt made with the left over layer cake squares from the stack of three quilt pattern.  Simple, and actually bigger then it appears on the picture.  It will be 38 x 38.

a little square table topper

a smaller table topper (I also made another one that I already gave as a gift)

table topper on the etsy store now

Everything BLUSH minus a quilt top I can't find anywhere.  So I did get everything sewn in a week!
