Lovely Year of Finishes - March Edition

Well - February for me was a bust in the sewing department!  I had wanted to get my swoon quilt sewn and quilted - didn't happen.  I got 1 block done - yes only 1!

I still have never gotten a good picture of this block.  I actually even lost it in the mess of my sewing room for awhile!

I can report that I have cleaned up the room a bit, found my block - and even have 2 more half way done - but the swoon completed quilt will definitely be a few months late.

Instead of feeling like a complete failure yet again this month of March - I have decided that at least I'm on the right track with trying to finish some quilts.

So my goals for March will be more realistic.  With a busy work month and a busy quilting month - I decided on the following goals...

- get caught up on the Blogger Girls BOM - I now have February and March blocks to do
- complete the swoon blocks - if I get these 2 in the works done I only have 2 more to go - I should be able to at least get all the blocks made.

Simple - that is a total 12 blocks for the month of March.  Wish me luck!

February Progress

Instead of making block #2 of the Blogger Girls Block of the Month - I decided first to make another version using a different line.  I have been dying over the one Monique is showing on her blog out of the Double Chocolat line - so I decided to make me a version.  I love how these are looking!  Still hoping to get block #2 done out of both lines this month.

I also made a little progress on my Swoon blocks (block) which is my goal for the month of February for Lovely Year of Finishes.  I now can't even find this block!  So this is a picture I took for Instagram.

I used the solid grey and blue for this block - which I love and it doesn't have red in it!  I'm hoping to hit the rest of the blocks hard this weekend so I can still get this quilt done this month.

Been doing a lot of quilting these days - 21 quilts in 20 days.  Maybe this month I can average a quilt a day....I only have 1 left right now - so help me out!

What I Love Most About Blogging

So I'm hosting my first ever giveaway (still time to enter go here) and let me tell you what I love most about this process.

When people comment - I link to their blog if they have one - and my world gets happy with new inspiration, new ideas, new friends, new eye candy!  I love getting to see what others out there are working on.  The trials they may be facing.  The smiling faces of their kids.  The products and services they are selling.  I have to say -  I think I'm turning into a social network junky!

Yesterday while catching up on my new friends - I ran into this quilt - and quilt a long.

I could die - I love this quilt.  Love the swoon block, love the scrappy look.  Oh the possibilities.

This just made my very full to do list, and might be headed to the top.  I love blogland - I love being inspired and motivated to stay up all night and sew.  I can't stop thinking about what fabrics I should make my Scrappy Swoon in.  I have a feeling there will be a lot of Red Bull being consumed this weekend!

February Goals - Lovely Year of Finishes

I have a new found love for the 1st of each month.
I receive my Anne Bright Club designs at 12:01am and stay up to see them.
The new block pattern for the Open Gates BOM is put up.
And I get to pick a new UFO for as part of A Lovely Year of Finishes

Remember my Swoon quilt?  I started it back in August - of 2011...

I have decided to make this Swoon quilt my February finish!  I have 4 blocks done - and 5 to go.  My goal is to complete the quilt - as in sewn, quilted, bound.

I love this block, love the quilt, love the fabric - its bright and springy and I want it hanging on my quilt rack by March - game on!

I have a few more finished quilts to show you in the next week, some new quilting designs and client quilts, and my 500 blog post - I think I need to have a giveaway!  Stay tuned.

WIP Wednesday

Monday I decided to make a quilt for a baby shower we were having at work for someone on Wednesday.  Yes I like to stress myself out.

Monday night I set out to find the perfect fabric and a quickish pattern I could whip up.  I went for 1 swoon block.... I forgot how long these suckers take!  So Monday night I got it cut and sewn.  Tuesday night I add the border, quilted it, added binding, and around midnight got it bound.

I have to say I love how it turned out.  Baby Swoon for baby Nora.

I did a loopy design to save on time, but think it turned out well.  Love the pops of orange!

Fabric is from Joel Dewberry - love this line!  Backed with a solid yellow flannel fabric that was super soft for the babe.

It was a happy end to a quick project.

Swoon ALong

A few months ago I started my Swoon quilt.  I am using Hometown fabrics by Sweetwater and I am in love with this line!  It is bright fun and cherry.  I kind of put my swoon quilt to the side when I started up on fall table runners - then Christmas hit and I haven't gotten back to Swooning just yet.

In an effort to feel motivated I started following the Swoon Quilt Along and viewing all the amazing and different swoon quilts in the flickr group.  If that doesn't motivate you to make a swoon quilt, not sure what will!  What I love most about this quilt along is that it is stress free.  Nothing to be done weekly - it can take you a month or a year to complete the quilt.  There is just pictures and tips galore to help you through your quilting journey.

Here is a quick look at my current blocks that are done.

Block #1

Block 1 is so far my favorite color combination - yet it was my very first block so as I went on realized some tricks etc.  So although it may be my favorite in color - the quality not so much.

Block #2

Block #3

Block #4

Playing Together

Clearly I need to break away from the red and add in another color or two....
